Heart for the Holidays is two weeks out: how to volunteer, partner or just show up

Two weeks from Saturday, United Neighborhood Outreach brings Heart for the Holidays back to The Condra School — free hot meals, take-home food, Santa photos, coats and more for any family who walks up.

The second annual community day is Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Condra School for Dyslexia Success, 1421 9th St., Lubbock, according to United Neighborhood Outreach. UNO presents the day; Condra hosts. No sign-up is required to attend. A quick RSVP on UNO’s site helps them plan enough food.

What families get (all free)

According to UNO’s Heart for the Holidays page, families can expect:

  • Free hot meals — hamburgers from Aspen Creek Grill, served while supplies last. (Aspen Creek is the meal provider named by UNO; it is not a Hub City UnCovered advertising sponsor.)
  • South Plains Food Bank mobile pantry — take-home food for families.
  • Photos with Santa — free for kids.
  • Kids’ corner — crafts and activities.
  • Coats — KSSL is bringing coats for families who need them.
  • Holiday music — Cathy Jewell, with KSSL radio.
  • Arrangements to take home — East Lubbock Art House table.
  • Free dyslexia screenings — early screening to help kids get reading support sooner.

How to volunteer or partner

UNO says every volunteer and partner means more families reached. You don’t need experience; they’ll show you what to do.

  • Volunteer: Give a few hours on Saturday, Nov. 21 — setup, serving, greeting or the kids’ corner. Call (432) 202-7477.
  • Partner: Businesses, churches and groups can donate food, turkeys or grocery gift cards, host a collection box, or send a team to serve. Email info@unolbk.org or call the same number.

Last November, families from across Lubbock filled Condra’s parking lot for the first Heart for the Holidays, UNO says. Organizers hope to welcome even more this year.

Food-bank calendar note

If you’re pointing neighbors to ongoing help, the South Plains Food Bank Need Food page lists the food bank closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 26–27 for Thanksgiving. Heart for the Holidays on Nov. 21 sits in that busy stretch before the holiday.
