Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Early voting is over, so if you haven’t voted, here’s when, where and what to bring in Lubbock County.

The basics

  • When: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.
  • Where: Lubbock County uses vote centers, so registered voters can go to any of the 36 locations below, not just a neighborhood precinct.
  • What you’ll need: an acceptable photo ID (details below).
  • What’s on the ballot: it depends on where you live. Look up your sample ballot at votelubbock.gov.

Some of the races on the ballot

The race getting the most attention is for U.S. Senate, between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico, who both campaigned in Lubbock on Oct. 27, the Texas Tribune and KCBD reported. Texans are also choosing a governor. In the 19th Congressional District, voters will pick a successor to outgoing U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington; Republican Tom Sell is the GOP nominee, according to Lubbock Lights. Local ballots also include a state Senate race, where Democrat Riley Rodriguez is among the candidates, the Tribune reported.

Lubbock-Cooper ISD voters also decide Proposition A, the district’s tax rate election. Our Prop A explainer walks through what a “yes” or “no” vote means.

Bring your photo ID

Texas law requires in-person voters who have one of seven acceptable photo IDs to show it at the polls, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s VoteTexas.gov. The seven are:

  • Texas driver license issued by DPS
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
  • Texas handgun license issued by DPS
  • U.S. military ID card with your photo
  • U.S. citizenship certificate with your photo
  • U.S. passport (book or card)

If your ID is expired: voters ages 18 to 69 can use an ID that expired no more than four years ago. Voters 70 and older can use an otherwise valid ID that has been expired for any length of time. The citizenship certificate doesn’t expire.

If you don’t have one and can’t reasonably get one: you can still vote a regular ballot. Bring a supporting document, such as your voter registration certificate, a current utility bill or a bank statement, and sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polls.

If you forgot your ID at home: you can go get it and come back before polls close. Or vote a provisional ballot, then show your photo ID at the county voter registrar’s office within six calendar days so it counts.

Questions? The Secretary of State’s voter line is 1-800-252-VOTE (8683).

No totals will be released before polls close at 7 p.m. Unofficial results will post on votelubbock.gov Tuesday night.
