Movie night at South Plains Mall is about to get a lot bigger. Premiere Cinemas + IMAX and the mall have announced Premiere PLUS, a 45,000-square-foot family entertainment center that will connect directly to the theater’s existing 16-screen complex.
The plan adds bowling, bumper cars, arcade games, a “7-D” cinema and new places to eat, KCBD reported Friday. Construction is already underway, and the doors are projected to open in summer 2027. KFYO, citing the companies’ media release, reported that the project is scheduled to be complete by then.
What’s coming to Premiere PLUS
According to the announcement, as reported by KCBD, KFYO and the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the expansion will include:
- 16 bowling lanes
- Multiple bumper-car arenas
- More than 100 arcade games
- A 7-D cinema experience
- A large kids’ play area, which KFYO reported will be about 2,000 square feet
- Party and event rooms for birthdays and corporate gatherings
- New cafes. KFYO listed two new cafes, a pizza pub, and a burger and soda fountain.
- A redemption center where players can trade in for prizes
With the addition, the theater’s footprint at the mall will grow to more than 110,000 square feet, according to the Avalanche-Journal and KFYO. KCBD reported that the project is locally owned and operated and called it one of the region’s largest entertainment centers.
A one-stop night out
Premiere Cinemas CEO Gary Moore called the project an exciting investment in Lubbock and in the future of family entertainment in West Texas, according to KCBD. He said the goal is a single destination where families and friends can catch a movie, bowl, play games, eat and celebrate special events without leaving the building.
Some local context
Premiere Cinemas opened its Lubbock theater at South Plains Mall, 6002 Slide Road, in 2012, KCBD reported. It later upgraded its auditoriums with luxury recliners and laser projection. The new space will put bowling and arcade games under the same roof as the theater’s IMAX screen, which could make it an easy pick on a windy West Texas weekend or for a birthday party.
The companies haven’t said how much the project will cost, how many jobs it will add, or which part of the mall it will occupy. They also haven’t announced pricing or hours. Hub City UnCovered will share those details as they come out.
