A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured Monday night after she fell from the cab of a semi-truck as it turned onto East Rice Street in East Lubbock, according to the Lubbock Police Department.

Officers responded at 9:07 p.m. Oct. 26 to a report of a collision with injuries involving a pedestrian in the 1300 block of East Rice Street, police said in a news release Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived, they found Rosalinda Gonzalez, 40, with serious injuries, according to LPD. EMS took Gonzalez to University Medical Center.

According to LPD’s initial investigation, Gonzalez was hanging onto the side of a semi-truck cab driven by Lloyd King, 35, as it traveled south on North Oak Avenue. As the cab turned west onto East Rice Street, she fell from the vehicle.

The department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating, and police said the investigation is ongoing. The LPD case number is 260028744.

LPD has not said whether any charges or citations will be filed in connection with the crash. Police also have not said why Gonzalez was on the side of the truck. The release did not include an update on her condition or say whether King was hurt.

Police first reported the crash in a release sent late Monday night. That release described a collision with injuries involving a pedestrian and the cab of a semi-truck in the 1300 block of East Rice Street, said the pedestrian was taken by EMS to University Medical Center with serious injuries, and did not identify anyone involved or include a case number.

Information in this report comes from a news release emailed to media at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, by Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Amber Edwards, titled “LPD Major Crash Unit Investigating East Lubbock Collision.”
